Congratulations on the arrival of your new family member! I look forward to meeting you and photographing your newborn!

Here are some things to do in order to ensure for a successful newborn session:

  1. If nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy (i.e. pizza, hot sauce, etc.) that might upset baby’s tummy for 24 hours preceding your scheduled session.

  2. Interact with and try to keep baby awake as much as possible before your session to ensure he/she is good and sleepy for the session. It is important to keep him/her awake for 1 hour before the shoot. Without this, we spend too much time getting them to sleep and not as much time photographing them. If you need to give the baby a bath to help keep them awake or get them naked, those are some tricks to use. Also, the baby needs to be fed as much as possible during the 12 hours that precedes the session. This will allow for baby to sleep as deeply and as long as possible.

  3. Please make sure your little one has a full belly for the session. Please feed your baby about an hour before our session is supposed to start. If baby is formula fed please have extra formula and bottles ready to go.  The fuller the tummy, the better baby will likely sleep for us!  :)

  4. Dress baby in loose fitting clothes to avoid any lines on skin – a simple button-up pr zipper sleeper is best.

  5. Have a pacifier ready to use if he/she takes one.

  6. Please make sure your home is pretty toasty to keep your little one warm while in their birthday suit.  I will also have a space heater to makes sure the space we're working in with baby is extra warm.  I recommend dressing in layers so that you can remove some if you get too hot along the way.  Essentially if we're sweating, it's perfect for your kiddo!

  7. I will need a pretty decent sized space close to a non-direct light source (window, sliding door, etc) so if possible try and keep that clear for me.  We will be using spaces in your home like the nursery, couch and bed, so try and keep those areas as uncluttered as possible.

Newborn sessions can take up to 2-4 hours, so please plan for that   If there are any special items you would like photographed with baby please have then out.  I love to include things that were special gifts or that are meaningful to you!  :)
